Braves' Ozzie Albies: Now wearing soft cast

Albies is now wearing a soft cast on his fractured left wrist, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

There still isn't a definitive timetable for when Albies can begin swinging a bat, but he should be getting close after swapping out his hard cast for a soft one. The second baseman has continued to run and throw since going on the 10-day injured list in late July due to wrist fracture. Albies is expected back around mid-September.

  • Brandon Drury 2B | LAA

Angels' Brandon Drury: Sitting out second straight

Drury is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto.

It's the second day in a row that Drury's name has been absent from the Angels' lineup card after he had started each of the previous four tilts. Michael Stefanic will occupy second base in this one.

  • Andy Ibanez 2B | DET

Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Hitting second against lefty

Ibanez will start in left field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Cubs.

With a southpaw (Justin Steele) on the hill for the Cubs, the Tigers are giving three of their lefty-hitting regulars (Riley Greene, Parker Meadows and Trey Sweeney) the afternoon off while opening up a prominent spot in the lineup for Ibanez. The 31-year-old utility man should remain a fixture in the lineup versus lefties for the rest of the season, as he's produced a. 958 OPS in those matchups so far in 2024.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | OAK

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Records 16th steal

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Rays.

Gelof singled in the bottom of the seventh before going on to steal his 16th bag of the campaign and his fourth this month. The second baseman is slashing just .232/.317/.393 in August with two homers, four RBI and seven runs scored. However, he's picked it up a bit as of late, batting .276 (13-for-47) over his last 13 games with four multi-hit performances in that span.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Putting together strong August

Rodgers went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI against the Nationals on Wednesday.

Rodgers accounted for Colorado's only run of the game and continued his surge in August. Across 17 games, he's hit .364 with three homers, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. Even more impressive is that eight of those contests have come away from the hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: On base four times in loss

Horwitz went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 11-7 loss to the Reds.

The 26-year-old slugged a two-run homer off Nick Martinez in the first inning, giving Horwitz his second long ball in as many games and his eighth of the year in 63 big-league contests. The multi-hit performance was his first since Aug. 9 though, and he's had trouble providing consistency to the Toronto lineup. Through 18 games in August, Horwitz is slashing .238/.338/.476 with three doubles, four home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs.

  • Jonathan India 2B | CIN

Reds' Jonathan India: Strong showing in comeback win

India went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 11-7 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

The Reds found themselves in a 6-0 hole after three innings, but by the time India launched back-to-back homers with Noelvi Marte to lead off the top of the sixth, the visitors held a 9-6 lead. Cincinnati's offense also showed off its athleticism in the comeback, as India, Marte, Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer all collected a homer and a steal. India has flipped a switch in August, and over the last seven games he's batting .370 (10-for-27) with three homers, five runs and seven RBI.

  • Luis Guillorme 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Luis Guillorme: Debuts for new team

Guillorme started at second base and went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-8 win over Miami.

Guillorme made his debut for the Diamondbacks, who signed him earlier in the week in the wake of starting second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) landing on the injured list. He's expected to serve as the backup at the keystone while Marte is sidelined, but the lefty-swinging Guillorme provides a useful complement to primary fill-in Kevin Newman.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | MIN

Twins' Edouard Julien: Racks up four hits in rout

Julien went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs in Wednesday's 11-4 victory against the Padres.

Julien entered Wednesday having collected just two hits over 10 at-bats since returning from the minors Aug. 15. He doubled that hit total in the rout over the Padres, notching his first four-hit game since August of last year. He's gaining some traction in the Twins' lineup, starting four of the team's past six games with Brooks Lee on the injured list due to a shoulder injury.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Getting regular run versus righties

Frazier will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Dating back to Aug. 10, Frazier is hitting .421 over a stretch of eight games, and he's now picked up six consecutive starts against right-handed pitchers. Four of those six starts have come in right field, where he could be displacing Hunter Renfroe as the Royals' preferred option. The Royals will make room in the lineup Wednesday for both Frazier and Renfroe, however, with the latter player filling in at designated hitter for a resting Freddy Fermin.
