Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Out again Sunday

Haggerty (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Haggerty returned from a five-game absence Friday only to suffer a finger injury, and he's on the bench Sunday for the second straight contest. Mitch Haniger will again shift to right field while Carlos Santana serves as the designated hitter.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Gets Sunday off

Kim is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Kansas City.

Jake Cronenworth will slide over to shortstop to fill in for Kim, who is taking a seat for the first time since Aug. 14. Kim came up big at the plate over the first two games of the series with the Royals, going 4-for-10 with a home run, a double and five RBI.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Third straight turn as leadoff man

Gonzalez will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

With usual leadoff man Luis Robert (wrist) sidelined for the entire series against the Diamondbacks and with the White Sox having an opening in the infield following Yoan Moncada's (hamstring) recent move to the injured list, Gonzalez will make a third straight turn out of the table-setting spot. He was able to capitalize on the opportunity in Saturday's 10-5 loss, going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. With Josh Harrison set to serve as Moncada's primary replacement, Gonzalez could end up settling in as the White Sox's main option at second base. Gonzalez's main challenger for playing time, Leury Garcia, returned from an IL stint of his own Saturday and is slashing a lowly .209/.234/.271 in 292 plate appearances on the season.

  • Mark Mathias 2B | CIN

Rangers' Mark Mathias: Not starting Sunday

Mathias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Mathias started the past three games and will receive a day off after going 7-for-12 with a home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Brad Miller will bat seventh as the designated hitter Sunday.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Gets rest Sunday

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Marte had served as Arizona's designated hitter in each of the past five games, going 3-for-22 with a walk, two RBI and a run over those contests. Rookie Stone Garrett will fill in for him in the series finale.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Not starting Sunday

Polanco (kneecap) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The 29-year-old exited Saturday's contest with left patellar tendinitis, and he'll be held out of the starting nine for at least one game. The severity of the injury remains unclear, and Polanco should be considered day-to-day. Nick Gordon will move to the keystone while Jake Cave starts in left field.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Day off Sunday

Massey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Massey is 2-for-23 with two RBI, a stolen base and 11 strikeouts over his past eight games and will head to the bench Sunday. Drew Waters will enter the lineup in Massey's place as the Royals shuffle their infield alignment, resulting in Nicky Lopez shifting to second base.

  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Not in Sunday's lineup

Espinal is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Espinal started the past three games and will take a seat after going 2-for-10 with a run scored. Whit Merrifield will start at the keystone and bat eighth Sunday.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sitting again Sunday

Lowe (elbow) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Lowe will remain on the bench for the second consecutive game after exiting Friday's contest with a right elbow contusion. Lowe was reportedly available as a pinch hitter Saturday, though he wasn't utilized, and he figures to available in a similar capacity Sunday. Isaac Paredes is starting at the keystone in the series finale at Boston.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Moving to first base

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Arroyo will "play a lot" at first base, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Trevor Story returned from the injured list Saturday to resume his regular spot at second base, which Arroyo had been filling this month. In order to keep Arroyo's hot bat in the lineup -- he has a slash line of .367/.400/.511 over his last 23 games -- Cora will work him at first base. Eric Hosmer (back) is on the injured list, and production from the Bobby Dalbec/Franchy Cordero platoon is lacking. Arroyo took grounders there prior to Saturday's game but did not play. "We're not asking him to be Don Mattingly at first base. Actually, he's going to play first because he's swinging the bat well," the manager said. Arroyo will start at second base Sunday with Story getting an off day, but Cora said there's a good chance Arroyo will play first base Monday.
