  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Absent from Wednesday's lineup

Miranda is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

Miranda started each of the first five games at third base for the Twins, but he will begin the second game of the series against the White Sox on the bench. Willi Castro is at the hot corner and Edouard Julien will occupy second base for Minnesota.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Away on paternity leave

The Mariners placed Polanco on the paternity list Tuesday.

Polanco will be allowed to miss up to three games while he spends time with his growing family. Miles Mastrobuoni will cover third base Tuesday, and Leo Rivas will come up from the minors to fill the open roster spot.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Polanco is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Tigers.

Polanco isn't dealing with any known injury, but this is the second time in the last three days that his name has been missing from the lineup. Miles Mastrobuoni will start at third base and bat eighth for the Mariners on Tuesday.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Starts at third base

Smith started at third base and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's 14-3 loss to the Reds.

Smith returned from a quadricep injury to fill in at third for the injured Josh Jung (IL-neck). It's likely he'll be the primary fill-in at the hot corner until Jung is ready to return. Ezequiel Duran and Jonathan Ornelas are also around and could grab a start or two against a lefty.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Belts homer in return

Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Monday's 7-2 loss to San Diego.

Ramirez was held out of Sunday's matchup against Kansas City due to a right wrist sprain, but he was back in action Monday after missing just one game. The issue didn't seem to have any impact on his swing, as the star third baseman notched his first two extra-base hits of the season -- a first-inning solo homer and a third-inning double. Ramirez went 0-for-6 with a walk over his first two games entering Monday.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Back after one-game absence

Ramirez (wrist) will start at third base and bat second in Monday's game against the Padres.

Ramirez suffered a sprained right wrist on a stolen-base attempt during Saturday's game against the Royals and didn't play Sunday. However, he's been cleared to return to action after just a one-day absence.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Back in action Monday

Smith (quad) will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Reds.

Smith didn't play Sunday after exiting Saturday's contest versus the Red Sox with a left quad contusion, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go for the series opener in Cincinnati. The 27-year-old is in line to handle the bulk of the playing time at third base while Josh Jung (neck) is sidelined.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting again Monday

Clement is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Clement has now hit the bench three times through the Blue Jays' first five games. All of his absences have come against right-handed pitching, so Clement may be viewed as more of a part-time player even after performing at a better-than-league-average level versus righties in 2024 (.312 wOBA, 104 wRC+). Playing time could become even more difficult to come by for Clement when Daulton Varsho (shoulder) returns from the injured list, as Will Wagner would likely be deployed at third base even more frequently after having thus far moved between the hot corner and designated hitter.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Back in lineup Monday

Westburg (undisclosed) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

After going 6-for-13 with three solo home runs and a walk through the Orioles' first three games, Westburg was surprisingly held out of the lineup for Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays. Though the assumption heading into the day was that Westburg was getting a rest day, manager Brandon Hyde said after the game that the 26-year-old infielder was available for the contest only in an emergency due to an unspecified issue. Whatever the case, Westburg is back in action Monday, as anticipated, so fantasy managers can feel comfortable with locking him into their lineups.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

White Sox's Nick Maton: Sitting against righty

Maton is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

While serving as Chicago's designated hitter in final two games of the team's season-opening series versus the Angels, Maton went 1-for-6 with a solo home run. Though he'll head to the bench Monday while the Twins send a right-hander (Chris Paddack) to the mound, the lefty-hitting Maton could end up playing against righties more often than not if he's able to build on his outstanding spring training. Despite attending camp as a non-roster invitee, Maton earned his way onto the White Sox's Opening Day squad by turning in a .989 OPS over 19 Cactus League games.
