  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Opens scoring with 14th homer

Carpenter went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Cubs.

Carpenter's blast came off Cubs starter Alec Mills in the fourth inning. Carpenter also reached after getting hit by a pitch in the seventh. The infielder has 14 homers, 43 RBI and 58 runs scored this season, but he's managed only a .228/.337/.390 slash line in 127 games.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Homers, reaches five times

Stanton went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a pair of walks in Friday's win over the Rangers.

It was just the third homer of the year for the 29-year-old slugger, but the 435-foot bomb was the 300th home run for the Yankees this season, a milestone reached by the Twins just a day ago. Stanton added a two-run single in the fourth inning and walked twice to complete his perfect night at the plate. Across 16 games since returning from the injured list, Stanton is slashing .308/.431/.538.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Smacks solo homer

Ramirez went 3-for-7 with a solo home run in an extra-innings loss to the Phillies on Friday.

It was the 25-year-old's first home run since Sept. 5 and first three-hit game since Aug. 30, and the three hits raised his September average to .276. He's hitting .274 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI, 53 runs and two steals in 413 at-bats this year.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Homers in win

Blackmon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's win over the Brewers.

Blackmon tied the game with a 400-foot homer off Ray Black in the sixth inning. The long ball was the 32nd of the year for the 33-year-old, who leads the Rockies with a .316 batting average.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Could start Saturday

Turner (back) could return to the starting lineup Saturday against San Francisco, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

According to skipper Dave Roberts, Turner's back is improving, and the team is hopeful to get him some at-bats before the regular season comes to a close. His availability for the rest of the weekend should become more clear closer to first pitch.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Absent from starting lineup

Turner (back) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Turner has been dealing with back tightness, and the Dodgers will hold him out again Friday as a result. The team figures to continue to exercise caution with their third baseman with the playoffs right around the corner.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Back in center field

Canha (groin) is starting in center field and batting fifth Friday against the Mariners.

Canha was held out of Thursday's contest after suffering a left groin strain Wednesday, but he's already been cleared for game action. He's batting .400 with two homers and four RBI over his last seven games.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Battling bone bruise

Choi is day-to-day with a bone bruise on his foot, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Choi fouled a ball off his foot Wednesday. His X-rays and CT scan were negative, but he didn't escape entirely uninjured and will sit for at least one game. Nate Lowe starts at first base Friday.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Sits in NL park

Reyes is not in the lineup Friday against the Nationals.

With the series being played under National League rules, Reyes can't fill his typical designated hitter spot. Cleveland has trusted him with an outfield role just once since acquiring him at the trade deadline, so there's a chance he's already made his final start of the year.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: On bench Friday

Martinez is not in the lineup Friday against Baltimore, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Martinez has gone 10-for-21 with seven RBI over his last five games. Mookie Betts will return from a foot injury but only as a designated hitter Friday, bumping Martinez to the bench.
