  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Slugs first homer

Tovar went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Tovar cranked a Freddy Peralta fastball 460 feet in the third inning to start the scoring. It was the shortstop's first home run of the season and second of his career. The 21-year-old is off to a slow start, slashing .217/.265/.337. Adding to the disappointment, Tovar has yet to pick up his first career big-league steal after swiping 74 bags across four seasons in the minors.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Getting breather Tuesday

Bogaerts is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds.

This appears to be a planned day of rest for Bogaerts, who singled and scored a run in Monday's series opener versus Cincinnati and carries a .304/.392/.500 slash line through his first 130 plate appearances with the Padres. Ha-Seong Kim is playing shortstop Tuesday and batting seventh.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Activated off minor-league IL

Luciano (back) was activated off the injured list Tuesday at Double-A Richmond, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Luciano missed the first month of the 2023 minor-league season after suffering a stress fracture in his lower back while playing in the Dominican Winter League. Now with a clean bill of health, the 21-year-old top shortstop prospect can continue his ascent through the Giants' system. He registered an .817 OPS in 65 games last summer between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and High-A Eugene.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Athletics' Aledmys Diaz: Placed on 10-day IL

Oakland placed Diaz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Though Diaz's hamstring strain is believed to be of the Grade 1 variety, the Athletics will err on the side of caution and have the infielder take at least the next week and a half off rather than having him play through the minor injury. Nick Allen was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move and should see plenty of playing time at shortstop while Diaz remains sidelined.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Recalled from Triple-A

Oakland recalled Allen from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Allen comes up to replace Aledmys Diaz after the latter was placed on the 10-day injured list. In 17 plate appearances with Oakland prior to being demoted to Triple-A, Allen hit just .063, but he performed well in his time with Las Vegas and should see plenty of reps at shortstop with Diaz on the shelf.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Returns from injured list

The White Sox activated Anderson (knee) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Anderson wound up missing three weeks of action with a sprained left knee. The star shortstop was hitting .298/.327/.404 with five steals before getting hurt and will be tasked with injecting some life into a struggling White Sox club.

  • Bo Bichette SS | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Five knocks in loss

Bichette went 5-for-5 with a three-run home run and a steal in Monday's 6-5 loss against the Red Sox.

Bichette blasted a homer and racked up three RBI for a second straight night en route to posting his second five-hit game of the season. After a torrid start, the shortstop had cooled off a bit, but he appears to be back on track and is currently slashing .344/.379/.522 with seven home runs and 21 RBI. Bichette also recorded his first steal of the year Monday, which hasn't been a big part of his game since going 25-for-26 during his first season as a full-time starter (2021).

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Collects three hits in win

Swanson went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-1 victory over the Nationals.

Swanson went deep against MacKenzie Gore in the fifth inning, belting a 389-foot two-run shot to give Chicago a 4-1 lead. It was the second homer of the season for the shortstop, each of which has come over his past five games. While Swanson's power production has been disappointing thus far, he's hit well with a .301/.419/.398 slash line. He's also racked up 18 runs, nine RBI and three stolen bases.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Swipes two bags across twin bill

Lindor went 1-for-6 with two walks, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases over both games of a doubleheader versus Atlanta on Monday.

Lindor came into the contest with two steals on the campaign, and he doubled that amount with a theft in each contest of the twin bill. The shortstop also drew a walk in each game, snapping an eight-game stretch without taking a free pass. Lindor has been moderately productive so far this season, slashing .215/.325/.430 with four homers, 22 RBI, 20 runs, four thefts and a 13:32 BBK.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Not starting first game back

Rojas is not in the starting lineup against the Phillies on Monday.

Rojas came off the injured list ahead of Monday's game against Philadelphia, but the shortstop is not expected to be an everyday player in his initial return. Mookie Betts is starting at shortstop again Monday and will hit in his traditional leadoff spot.
