  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Homers in fifth straight game

    Fitzgerald went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Dodgers.

    Fitzgerald kept his home run magic going with a solo blast to left in the second inning, and he later drove in a second run in the ninth with a single. He's now homered in five straight games, becoming the first Giants rookie to accomplish such a feat and becoming the first Giant to do it since Barry Bonds homered in seven straight in 2004. Over this stretch, Fitzgerald's slashing .571/.667/1.714 with seven RBI, six runs and a 4:4 BB:K in 18 plate appearances. He should continue to find himself in the lineup while his bat his scorching hot.

    Twins' Diego A. Castillo: Loses roster spot

    The Twins designated Castillo for assignment Wednesday.

    He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander Brock Stewart (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies. After getting a call-up from Triple-A St. Paul on July 14, Castillo appeared in just four games while going 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, three runs and two RBI.

    Astros' Jeremy Pena: Goes deep in loss

    Pena went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

    Pena was the only Astros player with multiple extra-base hits in Tuesday's defeat. He doubled in the seventh and then added a solo home run in the ninth with the game well out of reach. The 26-year-old is riding a six-game hit streak during which he has recorded multiple hits three times. Pena also has homered in two of his past three games and has driven in a run in three of his last four. He's now slashing .282/.324/.403 with nine homers, 44 RBI, 49 runs, 12 steals and an 18:67 BB:K in 412 plate appearances.

    Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Nabs seventh steal

    Swanson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Brewers.

    Swanson stole second after leading off the ninth inning with a single, but the Cubs couldn't bring him home. The shortstop has logged back-to-back multi-hit games against Milwaukee after going 1-for-9 with three walks over three contests versus Arizona coming out of the All-Star break. Swanson has struggled to a .217/.289/.347 slash line with nine home runs, seven steals, 31 RBI, 37 runs scored, 13 doubles and a triple over 92 games this season.

    Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Notches sixth steal

    Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the Rockies.

    Gonzalez has hit safely in four of five games since the All-Star break, and this was his second multi-hit effort in a row. The infielder also picked up his sixth steal on his eighth attempt of the year. He's at a .273/.323/.398 slash line with one home run, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, six doubles and a triple over 96 plate appearances. He's enjoyed a boost of playing time with the Red Sox facing four consecutive left-handed starters, but Gonzalez figures to cede his spot at first base to Dominic Smith against right-hander Cal Quantrill in Wednesday's series finale.

    Giants' Brett Wisely: Sitting Tuesday

    Wisely isn't in the Giants' lineup Tuesday versus the Dodgers.

    Wisely will get just his third rest day during July on Tuesday. Tyler Fitzgerald has the start at shortstop in Wisely's place and is batting seventh.

    Mariners' Leo Rivas: Recalled from Triple-A

    The Mariners recalled Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

    With J.P. Crawford (hand) headed for the injured list, Rivas will rejoin the big-league squad in order to replenish the Mariners' infield depth. The 26-year-old has gone 2-for-6 during his previous stints in the majors this season and has slashed .296/.441/.424 through 266 plate appearances in the minors.

    Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Placed on injured list

    The Mariners placed Crawford on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right hand fracture, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

    Crawford suffered a hairline fracture of his right pinky finger during Monday's contest and has now officially landed on the injured list, though the expected duration of his stay on the IL remains unknown. While he's out, Dylan Moore figures to take over as Seattle's primary shortstop, and Leo Rivas will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to provide depth to the Mariners' infield group.

    Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Remains out of lineup

    Rojas (forearm) isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

    Rojas remains day-to-day as expected Tuesday due to tightness in his right forearm. The shortstop missed the opening game of the series against the Giants on Monday, but it's believed he'll have a chance to return Wednesday. Enrique Hernandez draws the start at shortstop and is batting ninth Tuesday.

    Red Sox's David Hamilton: Resting against southpaw

    Hamilton isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

    With left-handed starter Ty Blach on the mound for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Hamilton will step out of the lineup Tuesday. Jamie Westbrook will pick up another start at second base as a result, batting ninth.
