Week 1 was tough on many levels. There were a lot of subpar performances and some bad injuries, including Jordan Love (knee), Puka Nacua (knee), and Jake Ferguson (knee), who could miss multiple weeks.
And we have to monitor injuries for several others, including Kenneth Walker III (abdomen), De'Von Achane (ankle), Raheem Mostert (chest), Rome Odunze (knee), Jordan Addison (ankle) and David Njoku (ankle). We could see some Fantasy managers needing to make wholesale changes to their roster out of necessity, which isn't fun.
But keep in mind that it's only Week 2. We don't want to panic yet (I'm talking to the managers with Marvin Harrison Jr., Drake London, and Chris Olave, among others). That said, tweaking your roster is important, especially if you can add some promising talent like Isaiah Likely or a key injury replacement like Zach Charbonnet. And if Christian McCaffrey (calf) remains out then Jordan Mason is a must-add in all leagues.
We'll walk you through the players to add and the ones to potentially drop off the waiver wire. And you might get lucky and pick up the next superstar who could lead you to a Fantasy title -- even in Week 2.
Editor's note: For this waiver wire column, we are mainly looking at players rostered in less than 65 percent of CBS Sports leagues.
Week 2 Waivers
Quarterbacks
Injuries: Jordan Love (knee) and Russell Wilson (calf)
Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Matthew Stafford (74 percent rostered). Stafford's offensive line is a mess, and he's now down Puka Nacua (knee) for at least four weeks. But Stafford still has Cooper Kupp and other weapons to help, the offensive line should get healthy soon, and Stafford is going to throw plenty of help to Fantasy managers if needed, especially in Week 2 against Arizona.
Drop candidates: Kirk Cousins (83 percent rostered), Aaron Rodgers (78 percent), and Deshaun Watson (66 percent). The trio of injured quarterbacks from 2023 combined for 29 Fantasy points in Week 1. There will be better days ahead for all three of them. Cousins and Rodgers were hopefully rusty, and the Browns offensive line was banged up, which didn't help Watson against Dallas. That said, for now, you can move on from all three of these guys heading into Week 2 in most 12-team leagues.
Add in this order:
Mayfield scored 37.7 Fantasy points in Week 1, and he's now scored at least 20.3 Fantasy points in seven of his past eight games going back to last season, including the playoffs. He's got the potential to be a No. 1 Fantasy quarterback all season, and he's worth starting in Week 2 against Detroit. Mayfield is worth adding for at least 10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to start Justin Fields in Week 2, while Russell Wilson (calf) will continue to be monitored. With that said, Fields might remain the starter even when Wilson is healthy. Fields didn't do much in Week 1 at Atlanta with 156 passing yards and 57 rushing yards, but we know he's capable of much more. I'd stash Fields in all leagues heading into Week 2 at Denver. He's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Smith was good, not great, in Week 1 against Denver with 19.8 Fantasy points, but I'm expecting him to improve moving forward in Seattle's new offense. He might have another mediocre performance in Week 2 at New England, but Smith could emerge as a starter in all leagues as the season goes on. He's worth up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Carr was nearly perfect in Week 1 against Carolina with just four incompletions on 23 attempts, with 200 passing yards and three touchdowns. He might have done more damage in a competitive game against the Panthers, and we'll see how he does in Week 2 at Dallas. It won't be an easy matchup, but Carr is worth stashing on your bench if you need a quarterback for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Darnold looked OK in Week 1 at the Giants in his first start for the Vikings with 18.6 Fantasy points. We'll see how he does in Week 2 against San Francisco, but playing in Kevin O'Connell's offense with Justin Jefferson could be exactly what Darnold needs to turn his career around. In deeper leagues, Darnold could be worth stashing for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
We don't know how long Jordan Love (knee) will be out, but the Packers are planning to start Willis in Week 2 against the Colts -- for now. Green Bay could always add a veteran if Willis struggles, so keep that in mind, but Willis should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.

Running Backs
Injuries: Christian McCaffrey (calf), Kenneth Walker III (abdomen), Raheem Mostert (chest), De'Von Achane (ankle) and MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring)
Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Jaleel McLaughlin (70 percent rostered), Ty Chandler (70 percent), and Jordan Mason (66 percent). Mason is the prize for all running backs this week, and he might be the most important player to add at any position. We don't know when McCaffrey will return to action, but Mason will be a top-10 running back in all leagues if he starts against the Vikings in Week 2. ... McLaughlin had more touches than Javonte Williams in Week 1 at Seattle (15-9), and we'll see what happens with Denver's backfield moving forward. I want to stash McLaughlin in all leagues where he's available. ... Chandler took a backseat to Aaron Jones in Week 1 at the Giants, but I still expect Chandler to have a prominent role for the Vikings and Fantasy managers this season. He's worth stashing in all leagues.
Drop candidates: Blake Corum (90 percent rostered), Chuba Hubbard (86 percent), MarShawn Lloyd (61 percent), and Kimani Vidal (25 percent). Do I want to drop Corum yet? No. But I might need a roster spot, and Corum didn't play a snap in Week 1 at Detroit behind Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers. We not see Corum play much as long as Williams is healthy. ... Hubbard had no targets and one more touch than Miles Sanders in Week 1 at New Orleans. The Panthers got blown out by the Saints, but this was an awful start for Hubbard with Jonathon Brooks (knee) on IR. I would only drop Hubbard in 10-team leagues. ... Lloyd was inactive in Week 1 against the Eagles, and we don't know when he'll play due to a hamstring injury. Emanuel Wilson stepped up against Philadelphia and performed well, which means you can drop Lloyd for now in most 12-team leagues. ... As long as J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards are healthy, we might not see Vidal on the field, and he was inactive for Week 1 against the Raiders. He's only worth stashing in dynasty and long-term keeper leagues.
Add in this order:
We're waiting to find out the status of Kenneth Walker III (abdomen), and if he's out for Week 2 at New England then Charbonnet would be a must-start running back in all leagues. Charbonnet played behind Walker in Week 1 against Denver and finished with eight carries for 12 yards and caught two of three targets for 29 yards and a touchdown. It's not a bad idea to stash Charbonnet even if Walker plays in Week 2, and Charbonnet is worth adding for 15 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Jeff Wilson (1 percent rostered) might benefit the most if one or both of De'Von Achane (ankle) or Raheem Mostert (chest) are out for Thursday's game against Buffalo since he played in Week 1, while Wright was a healthy scratch. But I would hope that if the Dolphins need running back help we'll see Wright in an expanded role, and he has more upside than Wilson. I'd add Wright for 10-15 percent of your remaining FAB, and Wilson is worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB. Just stay tuned to Tuesday's injury report to see the practice status for Achane and Mostert heading into Thursday's game.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Bigsby was Jacksonville's best running back in Week 1 at Miami with 12 carries for 73 yards. Travis Etienne, meanwhile, had 12 carries for 44 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 15 yards on three targets. We heard all offseason that Jacksonville wanted to give Bigsby a bigger role, and it played out that way against the Dolphins. He might do enough to be a flex in deeper leagues while Etienne is healthy, and Bigsby could be a lottery ticket if Etienne ever missed any time. Bigsby is worth adding in all leagues for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Irving had a solid NFL debut in Week 1 against Washington with nine carries for 62 yards and two catches for 14 yards on three targets. He ran better than Rachaad White, who had 15 carries for 31 yards and six catches for 75 yards on six targets. Irving should have the chance to play in tandem with White, and Irving is a lottery ticket if White were to miss any time. Irving is worth adding in all leagues for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Mattison played more snaps than Zamir White in Week 1 at the Chargers (36-23), and we'll see if that's a sign of things to come. Mattison did well in the passing game with four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown on six targets, and he also added five carries for 19 yards. We'll see what happens for the Raiders in Week 2 at Baltimore, but if Las Vegas is trailing then Mattison could again have an expanded role. He's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Hill could end up being a flex option in PPR if he continues to have a big role in the passing game for the Ravens. In Week 1 at Kansas City, Hill had six catches for 52 yards on eight targets, and he added one carry for 3 yards. Derrick Henry remains the lead running back for Baltimore, but Hill will work on passing downs. And Hill could be a lottery ticket if Henry were to miss any time. Hill is worth stashing in PPR leagues for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Perine didn't do much in Week 1 against the Ravens with one catch for 10 yards on two targets, but I expect his role to expand moving forward. He could see more action on passing downs for the Chiefs, and he's not a bad stash candidate in PPR. Perine is worth adding for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Wilson did great as the No. 2 running back for the Packers in Week 1 against the Eagles in Brazil with four carries for 46 yards and two catches for 2 yards on three targets. With MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) out, Wilson played behind Josh Jacobs, and Wilson could stay in that role for the foreseeable future. He's worth stashing in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

Wide Receivers
Injuries: Puka Nacua (knee), Tee Higgins (hamstring), Rome Odunze (knee), Marquise Brown (shoulder), Jordan Addison (ankle) and Josh Downs (ankle)
Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Brian Thomas Jr. (85 percent rostered), Khalil Shakir (84 percent), Jameson Williams (84 percent), Marquise Brown (83 percent), Josh Palmer (77 percent) and Jerry Jeudy (65 percent). Williams should be 100 percent rostered after his performance against the Rams with five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown on nine targets. ... Thomas had a standout NFL debut against Miami with four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown on four targets, and he drew a pass interference call in the end zone on Jalen Ramsey. ... Shakir didn't have a huge game against the Cardinals but finished with three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown on three targets. ... Brown could return in Week 2, and I hope he'll have a big role with the Chiefs this season. ... Palmer only had two catches for 15 yards on three targets against the Raiders before being ejected for fighting in the fourth quarter, but I expect him to be productive as the season goes on. He's still worth stashing in all leagues. ... Jeudy was second on the Browns in targets in Week 1 with eight, and he finished with three catches for 25 yards and a touchdown. His role could expand with David Njoku (ankle) hurt.
Drop candidates: Curtis Samuel (54 percent rostered), Adam Thielen (45 percent), Ja'Lynn Polk (40 percent), Darnell Mooney (37 percent), and Dontayvion Wicks (33 percent). ... I don't want to drop Samuel after one game, but he only had two catches for 15 yards on two targets against the Cardinals. ... Thielen managed three catches for 49 yards on four targets against the Saints, but there's minimal upside with him as part of a now crowded Panthers receiving corps. ... Polk will have better days ahead, but the Patriots passing game is uninspiring right now. He had one catch for 6 yards on one target in Week 1 against the Bengals. ... Until Kirk Cousins starts to improve, Mooney will have minimal Fantasy value. He managed one catch for 15 yards on three targets in Week 1 against the Steelers. ... Wicks had no catches on three targets in Week 1 against the Eagles, and now Jordan Love (knee) is hurt. Wicks will likely only matter if Jayden Reed, Christian Watson or Romeo Doubs miss any time.
Add in this order:
Shaheed had three catches for 73 yards and a touchdown on five targets in Week 1 against Carolina, and he could have had more production in a competitive game. I'm excited about his role this season for the Saints under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. and this New Orleans offense could be one of the better surprises this year. Shaheed is worth adding for 10-15 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Cooks had four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in Week 1 at Cleveland. He could see an uptick in targets if Jake Ferguson (knee) is going to miss significant time, and the Cowboys passing game might be more prominent this season with the run game expected to struggle. Cooks is worth adding for 10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Puka Nacua (knee) will miss at least four weeks, and we'll see how the Rams use Robinson and Tyler Johnson (1 percent rostered) as replacements. I give Robinson the slight edge given his role with the Rams, and last season he scored at least 13.2 PPR points in each of his final five games in the regular season. In Week 1 against the Lions, Robinson had four catches for 42 yards on seven targets. Johnson also did well with five catches for 79 yards on seven targets, and his role will expand with Nacua out. Robinson is worth 10 percent of your remaining FAB, and Johnson is worth up to 5 percent.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Lockett just continues to produce, and in Week 1 against Denver, he was the Seahawks' leading receiver with six catches for 77 yards on seven targets. DK Metcalf (three catches for 29 yards on four targets) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (two catches for 19 yards on two targets) will have better games moving forward, but Lockett is worth stashing on your bench for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Alec Pierce (1 percent rostered) had the best game for the Colts receivers against Houston with three catches for 125 yards and a touchdown on three targets, but Mitchell nearly had a huge game as well on some missed opportunities. He finished one catch for 2 yards on five targets, and I want to stash Mitchell on my bench based on his upside, especially while Josh Downs (ankle) is out. Mitchell is worth adding for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
The Cardinals talked all offseason about Dortch being more involved this season, and he was in Week 1 at Buffalo with six catches for 47 yards on eight targets. He's not going to make a lot of big plays, but he can be a decent No. 3 PPR receiver. In PPR, add Dortch for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Robinson isn't going to make a lot of big plays for the Giants, especially with Daniel Jones at quarterback, but Robinson could be a decent No. 3 PPR receiver. He had six catches for 44 yards on 12 targets in Week 1 against Minnesota, as well as one carry for 14 yards. Robinson is worth adding in PPR for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Mike Williams (51 percent rostered) is likely the better Jets receiver to stash since he could play a prominent role when fully healthy, but he's still working his way back from last year's torn ACL. Williams was used more as a decoy in Week 1 at San Francisco and didn't receive a target. Lazard, meanwhile, had a huge game with six catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns on nine targets, but one score came on a free play when the 49ers jumped offsides, with the second touchdown in garbage time from Tyrod Taylor. Don't chase this production from Lazard, but he is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB to see what happens until Williams is back to his normal self.
| ||||||||||||||||||
It was good to see Legette get seven targets in his NFL debut at New Orleans, and he finished with four catches for 35 yards. Better days are ahead for him, but hopefully, the Panthers offense will have a better showing than what happened in the 47-10 loss to the Saints. Legette is worth stashing on your bench in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
McMillan has plenty of upside, and you saw a glimpse of it in Week 1 against Washington when he caught a 32-yard touchdown. It was his lone catch on three targets, but he did operate as the No. 3 receiver for Tampa Bay behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. In deeper leagues, McMillan is worth stashing for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
The Broncos had three receivers with at least eight targets in Week 1 at Seattle with Courtland Sutton (12), Vele (eight and Josh Reynolds (eight). Vele finished with eight catches for 39 yards, Reynolds had five catches for 45 yards and Sutton had four catches for 38 yards. It's not a bad idea to stash Vele and Reynolds (4 percent) in deeper PPR leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB. Bo Nix is going to give his receivers plenty of chances for receptions, so Vele and Reynolds could be factors in deep PPR leagues.
| ||||||||||||||||||
We don't know how long Jordan Addison (ankle) will be out, so Nailor could have an expanded role for the Vikings opposite Justin Jefferson. In Week 1 at the Giants, Nailor had one catch for a 21-yard touchdown on one target, and we'll see what happens with Addison heading into Week 2 against San Francisco. In deeper leagues, Nailor is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

Tight End
Injuries: David Njoku (ankle), Jake Ferguson (knee) and Foster Moreau (head)
Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Dallas Goedert (87 percent) and Pat Freiermuth (74 percent). Goedert didn't have a huge game in Week 1 against the Packers in Brazil, but he caught four passes for 31 yards on five targets and should continue to have a prominent role moving forward. He'll be worth using as a low-end starter in Week 2 against Atlanta. ... Freiermuth also had a quiet game in Week 1 at Atlanta with four catches for 27 yards on four targets, but he was used as the primary Steelers tight end, which is encouraging moving forward. In 10-team leagues, if you have to replace Ferguson or Njoku, Freiermuth could be a decent replacement if you can't add guys like Isaiah Likely, Taysom Hill, or Juwan Johnson.
Drop candidates: Dalton Schultz (80 percent rostered), Luke Musgrave (55 percent), and Tyler Conklin (40 percent). It will be tough for Schultz to produce at a high level when everyone is healthy for the Texans, and he only had three catches for 16 yards on three targets in Week 1 at Indianapolis. ... Musgrave had no catches on two targets in Week 1 against the Eagles, and you can't trust him moving forward with Jordan Love (knee) hurt. ... Conklin had one catch for 6 yards on two targets in Week 1 at San Francisco, and he's not worth holding in most leagues heading into Week 2 against the Titans.
Add in this order:
Wow, Likely was amazing in Week 1 at Kansas City. He had nine catches for 111 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets, and hopefully, that's a sign of things to come. We'll see if he continues to dominate targets like this, but I don't think he's going away in Baltimore's offense. He could be a must-start Fantasy tight end for the rest of the season, even with Mark Andrews healthy, and Likely is a must-add in all leagues. He's worth spending at least 25 percent of your remaining FAB, but you might need to be more aggressive in your leagues if you want to get him.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Hill didn't have to do much in Week 1 against Carolina, and he only had five carries for 35 yards and caught one pass for 1 yard on two targets. He'll likely do more in a competitive game, which should happen in Week 2 at Dallas. I'm counting on Hill to be a potential starting Fantasy tight end in all leagues for the season, and he's worth adding for up to 15 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Johnson had two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown on three targets in Week 1 against Carolina, and he should see an expanded role with Foster Moreau (head) injured. Johnson was one of my favorite sleepers coming into the season, and I'm excited to see what he can do with increased targets. He's worth adding for up to 10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Parkinson had four catches for 47 yards on five targets in Week 1 at Detroit, and his role could expand now that Puka Nacua (knee) is on injured reserve and out for four games. Matthew Stafford should continue to lean on Parkinson, and he's worth adding in all leagues for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
Ertz had a quiet game in Week 1 at Tampa Bay with three catches for 28 yards on four targets, and more production should come as the season goes on. He's not going to have dominant games on a consistent basis, but Ertz could be No. 2 on the Commanders in targets until rookie tight end Ben Sinnott gets more comfortable in the offense. In deeper leagues, Ertz is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
For now, Schoonmaker is the No. 2 tight end for the Cowboys behind Jake Ferguson, who could be out in Week 2 with a knee injury. In deeper leagues, if Schoonmaker were to get the start in Dallas in Week 2 against New Orleans, he would be worth adding in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
| ||||||||||||||||||
For now, Akins is the No. 2 tight end for the Browns behind David Njoku, who could be out in Week 2 with an ankle injury. In Week 1 against Dallas, Akins had three catches for 27 yards on four targets. In deeper leagues, if Akins were to get the start in Cleveland in Week 2 against Jacksonville, he would be worth adding in deeper leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
